Klark Teknik SQ1D vs Presonus ACP88
« on: June 05, 2011, 05:42:44 am »

Maybe a bit of a silly question, but would the SQ1D be considered any kind of "major upgrade" from the ACP88?

There's a thread in the old lab about the SQ1D - Started by Bennett I think.  Twas not favorable.  But that's not to say it's not preferable to the ACP88.  I'd prefer Behringer gates to those in the ACP88, but I've never used the SQ1D.  Find some nice deals on a Rane C4 and G4, and expand from there if needed.

Hey Tim... thanx for the heads up on those old threads.  I was able to suss out that the comps and gates aren't simultaneous features on the 'squid'.  I think I was assuming that they were due to my experience with the ACP.  Something to take into consideration, I guess.

I don't like either the comps or gates in the ACP88

I don't like the gates in the Sq1d but the comps are superb. The various tones of comp give a wide range of possibilities.

My Sq1d is showing reliability issues (and it is pretty new)

I would suggest that you go and buy 2x Drawmer DS404 and 2 x BSS DPR404 and have done with it. The gates are superb and the comps are excellent - the DE-Esser really works too.

One last question about the 'squid'... taking all performance-related aspects into account, would saving about $1k off the regular price make it a more 'acceptable deal'?
