Membergroups
« on: January 17, 2011, 12:42:12 PM »

Starting today we have implemented membergroups in the forums. Joining one or more membergroups will allow you to limit the number of forums that you see, and also limit the number of forums that appear when you use the "View the most recent posts on the forum." button. If you are in a membergroup, only posts in those forums will show up as recent posts. The 4 membergroups are as follows:

SR forums, which sees all the SR forums, and the Bugs and Comments section where community announcements are made, and issues reported.
Church and H.O.W. forums, which sees Church forums and B&C
Marketplace, which sees only the Marketplace and B&C

Membership in a group is not mandatory. Anyone who does not join a group(s) will continue to see all the content on the site as you presently do. The groups just allow you to narrow the focus of what you see. As always, individual sections may be expanded or collapsed by clicking on the section title bar. Collapsing a section does not remove it from the forums that show up under "recent posts".

To join one or more membergroups, go to your profile and under Modify Profile select Group Memberships. Select a membergroup by using the Join Group button. You may add additional groups as you wish.

Re: Membergroups - UPDATE - New Groups

In response to requests by several members, we have made the membergroups more granular. Now each forum is available as a membergroup so that you can customize what you want to see on a forum by forum basis.

Personally, I feel that it is better to have a larger group of forums show up, as this will provide a broader view of what is going on in the forums, but if there are forums anyone would like to eliminate from their list when they use "Show unread posts since last visit" you can now pick which forums you want to join individually. You may join as many groups as you like. The announcements will be part of every group so that announcements will always show up in your unread posts.

If you use this method to narrow your focus, don't forget to "unjoin" the broader membergroups you may already belong to.
