ADA8000 - termination?
« on: May 05, 2011, 04:11:56 PM »

Hi Y'all,

Am using a single Behringer ADA8000 with an 01V96.
Have been using clock over ADAT, but have read about possible issues.
Bought a BNC/75 ohm cable, connected it, and the ADA8000 says it is locked just fine.

Do I need a BNC T and terminator in this situation, or only if there are two or more ADA8000s connected?  What is best practice?

( I also got a BNC Goalpost T and terminator, and the ADA8000 appears to be fine with or without it. )

I know this has been discussed before, but don't remember the definitive answer...

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

Hi Mac,

Thanks!

I'll use the terminator all the time.

Still confused over this.

When using only ADAT cables for word clock and audio, do I still need to use a 75 ohm BNC terminator resistor plug on the last ADA 8000?

Or, is a 75 ohm BNC terminator resistor plug only needed when using BNC cables for word clock?

Terminator is used only for BNC. ADAT and BNC are independent physical media. Terminator is a resistor across signal and earth on the BNC cable that prevents signal reflection at the end of the cable. I. e. it's not something that modifies how the ADA work internally, it just improves the WC connection.
