I have used a Beyer M88 Dynamic mic on hi hat and been very happy with the results!! Try it!

If you're looking at Beyer mics, look at the M201, the dynamic mic that thought it was a condenser.

Mac
+1 on the m201
Makes a pretty great tom mic as well.
But then I used to use m88's for vocals. Sure made the quiet singers get on the mic.

Use whatever you have.  You know at the end of the night no one in the audience is going to say " I loved the band, but the high hat sucked."

While listening to a couple of albums recently, I was surprised to hear "Crush" by The Dave Mathews Band and "Harder to Breathe" by Maroon5 were way overdone. Guess anything is possible... .

just my opinion
