I've had a Sennheiser MD 441 U microphone in my possession for several years and can't understand why I've never used it. To the best of my knowledge this is primarily a vocal mic with a supercardiod pattern. Just curious as to how many others either own and or utilize this microphone and would welcome comments regarding your opinions and experiences.
Like others have pointed out, the MD441 is a great mic. One of the greatest, IMO. Very expensive and large for a dynamic mic, but magic on the right sources. If I remember correctly, this was a "dynamic mic designed to compete with condenser mics". It has a very flat frequency response and a nice, uniform pattern.
I personally owned one, and also used them extensively when touring with a big band. Great horn solo mic, and terrific on tenor sax.
Photos in jazz LPs from the '70s show it used as a vocal mic for Sarah Vaughn, Ella, etc.
It's smoother-sounding that most condensers, to my ears, and more detailed that most dynamic mics. Reminds me of a good ribbon mic, actually, but with more detail on the top.
