lifts and truss
« on: January 14, 2011, 12:46:07 AM »

I am about to get my hands on my first pair of lifts and sections of truss.
Is there anything that i need to know to keep me from doing anything stupid.
asid from the obvious weight ratings and insurance.

Dont fly anything until you know exactly what your doing.  I know this is a kind of boring answer, but most of us have seen far to many rigging accidents which could have been prevented.  Get a qualified/ experienced rigger to go through the setup with you, and check out the kit your using and give you advice on the setup.  When it comes to saftey, dont rely on internet advice, talk to people in the know.

Good Luck!

The fact that you are purchasing lifts and trusses before having the questions answered is a bit troubling.     At the very least, consider hanging around an experienced rigger in your town... offer your assistance as a free hand on several gigs..  Anything at all to get some basic knowledge.      We don't know your rig, how you intend to set it up, under what ground conditions, etc.    There are just too many variables involved to give you a Step 1, Step 2, Step 3 answer in a post.

thank you all for the great suggestions.
i all ready have planes on having an experienced rigger show me how to set it up.
i am actually buying it from one.
i posted on this forum because i have been reading here for several years and know
that it is full of extremely competent people and that i would get good advice.
i guess i was kind of looking for a check list of things that i need to look at before i set it up
things to check things to test and things that would prevent me from setting it up like
ground conditions. this is all stuff the rigger will probably tell me but i like to study and research
before i go to class.
i understand all your concerns for i am concerned as well and will be more then cautious.
thanks for your replies and how do i use the spell checker on this thing it is driving me crazy
i hate the new format.

Add a small level to your gig bag and make sure the lifts are nice and level before you lift anything.  A small amount out of level adds up as you go up
