KAM Mics for drums - any experience
« on: April 24, 2011, 12:06:22 AM »

Limited reviews around on these, but apparently the ST2 is pretty good for toms etc.
Just looking for something reasonable but cheap for my son't kit at home.

I started out with the cheaper Peavey drum mic kit. I have since upgraded my snare and kick, but still use the Peavey's on the toms. Live or in the studio I can always find the sound I want and they didn't break the bank.

I'm assuming they still make them anyways.

VERY true. However, since the linked auction mentions the AU equivalent pricing, I suspect that is shipping from IL, USA to Australia. The dynamic mics look interestingly like the Korean made EWI mics no longer carried by Mark at www.audiopile.net. They also look like the Superlux/Avlux mics. It's interesting that the two condensors have extra capsules to change their pickup patterns. I'd expect them to work on par with other similarly priced mics and it seem you get a few more items for the money.

IMO, the best budget drum mics, by far, are the Equation Alpha Series.
