How should this be setup?
« on: December 08, 2010, 05:04:19 PM »

I am new to this whole thing and our church has had this sound system for about 6 months and we have to tear down every week so it seems that it is always getting setup different, so if you could tell me how you would do this I would appreciate it.

I have been running my mains and my monitors with their own cable from stage all the way to the sound board, and I had someone tell me I should be running them through the snake?  How do I go about doing this?

I've been doing it this way:

Snake to sound board
sound board to EQ
EQ  to BBE
BBE to mains
and the same way for the monitors

Our equipment List:

2 Bose L1 towers
2 Mackie Active powered monitors

16 channel snake with four 1/4" returns

Yamaha 16 channel mixer #MG166CX-USB
2 channel EQ
BBE 482i sonic maximizer

First off, you must put your real name as your alias, or this thread will be locked by the moderator.

Yes, you can run the cables to your speakers via the snake since they are all self powered. Connect the quarter inch jacks at the sound board end of the snake to the same place you would connect your long cables that go to your speakers. Use shorter cables to connect to the corresponding jacks at the stage end of the snake.

Taylor,

Thanks for your input, and I didn't know about the name thing so I changed it, sorry

Would you go through the eq first and then into the BBE?

Yes you can run your audio cable to the mains and monitors back through the snake as long as they are line level (which it looks like it is) and not speaker level(unless the snake is designed for that). Thats 2 less cables for you to have to run.

The only other change I would make is punching the bypass button on the sonic maximizer. In my mind it is a gimmick piece of equipment kind of like reverb on home stereos back in the 70's...but, that is just my opinion.

Edit: The reason I would bypass (or remove as Andy said) is it messes with the eq. All that work you put in eqing the system goes out the window because the BBE changes it in a somewhat unpredictable manner.

The first thing you do is shitcan the BBE thing.
