Obviously, if you have the money, you should look at Midas.  But I second Dick's suggestion:  I wouldn't buy an analog board today without checking out the APB-Dynasonics Spectra series.  Great design, great quality, great sound, great value.

If you're wondering who these guys are, they are what's left of Crest after Peavy bought the company and "moved" it to Missouri.  The Crest X-series consoles were proven performers;  APB-Dynasonics built on this design and improved it.

I wonder if there is any warranty on a NOS discontinued model.  I also wonder if parts are available.

The PM series was very prevalent at one time for touring rock stuff.  It also had a reputation for having a sound that was "warm" or "dull" depending on whether you liked it or not.

Full feature set, dull sound was my experience.

The Yamaha M3000A is the PlaySkool version of a large-frame mixing console.

Truly, it's a piece of junk.

I'd look at Midas, or Allen&Heath at that price range.

We recently purchased a GL3800 Allen and Heath and are very happy with it. http://www.glseries.com/ Allen and Heath is a top brand and the 48 channel would still be in your price range.

+1 to Andy's comment this is NOT a good mixer, look into A+H ML or GL series, APB, Midas, or Soundcraft.

Heck, look for a used PM4000 before the m3000a. Unfortunately, there are not many mixers that are 56mono channels out of the box, if that is a requirement, then heavily consider and APB or A+H that make linking two desks together for channel count easily.

Personally, the no sound check really has no bearing on digital vs analog for me, heck that just makes me want a digital desk more, save the channel strip into a library and recall a channel where ever it needs to be loaded.

FASTER than analog by the second go round.
