Which video switch/scaler/....????
« on: February 10, 2009, 04:17:39 PM »

We need a switcher that will switch/scale a computer with VGA connector and a composite video signal. The output needs to be either 5-BNC or just a VGA connector. Recomendations??

I'm partial to the Video Genie DS1.  You can read about it at  http://www.justaddpower.com/products/General/WCBS/WCBS_Overv iew.htm

It's really hard to make a solid reccomendation without knowing more about your media plan.  How many screens, do you need matrix functionality, is there an overflow room involved?  The more you tell us about your situation, assets, and goals, the easier it is to give you the best advise.

Check out the Kramer VP719 or the FSR 6100. Both will do what you are requesting plus some.

well the room that it is going in is our youth room and it will be used to send signal to 2 projectors via a distribution amp. In the "overflow" room we are going to have a different worship service (using mediashout on the computer) then when the main service goes to preaching we will switch to the video feed of the preacher(via the composite input).

thats the situation. thanks for the help

Kristian,

Is the "youth room" a different room than your "overflow" room?  I'm trying to understand if you are working with 3 rooms, or just 2 for this project.

Where budget is a factor there may be one other decision to make.  Some devices switch between the video and computer inputs and then scale whichever source is selected, so you always have a constant output at the assigned resolution.  Other devices scale the video input to any desired resolution and than switch between that and the computer signal, the computer signal is not processed but simply 'passed through' at whatever resolution the computer is running.  This is typically a less expensive option but can cause the projector to have to resync when you switch sources.

I would typically recommend the first option but since it sounds like you would be switching from the computer input to the video input and back just once during a service, the second option might save some money.

i really like the Kramer VP719xl that was suggested. It is in our price range and has the right inputs. It is not catagorized as a "seemless" switcher, but it ways that it has something that keeps an image present for "glitch free switching". The projector input flashing wouldnt bother me.
