How close does the projector have to be to the screen?
« on: November 13, 2008, 11:24:43 AM »

I realize this is an impossible question to answer definitively without specific dimensions and projector model number. What I am looking for is a general sense of average distances in your sanctuary and how big your screen is. And possibly the model number and manufacture of your projector.
thanks

Here are a few examples I just saw in a church:

Benq new model about 15' from an 110" diagonal screen

Hitachi CPX1250 about 10' from an 110" diagonal screen

Older SANYO LCD's about 20' fom an 180" diagonal screen

The tool at http://www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cf m will let you find the correct answer for most make/model projectors.

In general, for most standard lens, you can place the projector at two times the width of the screen.

The trow ratio you see on the lens spec is just that, a multiplier of the screen width. If the trow ratio is 1.8:1 then multiply the screen width by 1.8 and that is where the front of the lens should be. 2.4:1 multiply the screen width by 2.4. And so on.
