Hi,
We have a serious renovation project upcoming in our church in the near future, including work on the acoustics and the installation of a new sound system (hopefully the end result will be a lot better than currently).
FOH is not going to change, and we currently have an 01V96 and two a/d converters giving us the maximum in/outs.
What I am pondering is whether to change from analogue to digital snakes.
Now, before you all pounce on me, i have read
http://churchsound.prosoundweb.com/index.php/t/14121/c6b8474 a1f8a66aece038c455809fa8b/ on analogue vs digital and found it very interesting.
What I am looking for is whether it is even possible given our current mixer to accomplish this.
We're likely to need 24 input and 6 output channels. We do already have a snake, but with the underfloor heating going in there is unlikely to be an easy way to easily incorporate a 30 channel (excluding any future flexibility) copper snake in the floor. A light digital cable however should be much easier to route from FOH to stage however.
I've looked at the yamaha website and after an hour or two have become overcome with MYxxx cards, cobranet, ethersound, fibre-optics etc etc.
I could just run six fibre cables (3 each way) from A to B and sit three ad/da converters on the stage, but would then have no control of the input gains.
Does anyone know whether it is even possible to control any digital heads remotely using the 01v96 (maybe using cobranet or something else?
Even if so, is it going to be hideously expensive?
Looking forwards to any suggestions
Mark
