I bet that's one expensive recessed can!  A few of those would be slick in the kitchen...  But, who know's what I'd end up buying the wife after that purchase--my lawn mower purchase cost me a new living room set...

Some of the others suggested this, but I think it is worth exploring further the idea of doing parallel systems. You could do a wide flood par 64 and fire them straight down spacing them out equally about 15' apart. That would not require much dimming and par cans are cheap.

Incandescence have many advantages over florescences or the vapor type fixtures for worship lighting. Color temp, dimable, noise, and cost to name a few.

Also, it might not be necessary for the dimmable system to be able to duplicate the full brightness of the existing lighting. For one thing, its still there if you need all that brightness. Secondly, a worship service can often greatly benefit from less brilliant lighting.

We started out with about 500,000 lumens of non-dimmable flourescent lighting. Our parallel dimmable lighting peaks out at well under 100,000 lumens. We rarely turn the dimmable lighting all the way up. We now only use the non-dimmable lighting for room maintenance.
