Sending video to extended desktop (projector)
« on: March 19, 2007, 08:28:55 PM »

Hello,
We have a very basic Laptop->LCD projector setup.  The laptop is set so the output is an extended desktop, so we have a control interface on the laptop screen while running PowerPoint.  Is there a way to run video off a DVD like this too?  I can not figure out a way on Windows Media player.  Is there another program I can get if WM will not?

Thanks,
Matt

You can try Media Shout 3.0 it will allow you to do this.

you have several options here, if you have an nvidia card in the laptop you can set up hot keys to move the object to the extended desktop. or you will have arrows up on your windows near the minimize key that will let you "send" it to the other screen. thats an easy cheap fix, or have you tried just dragging it over and playing it full screen?

Also i use powerdvd for our service and just drag it and full screen it to the other desktop, works well.

I found another program that was pre-loaded on our computer called WinDVD.  I have not used it much, but it does allow the movie window to be moved to the second monitor while keeping the controls on the first.

I will have to check and see if there are hot keys, that would be handy.

All of these suggestions are fine. If you want to use windows media player, you must make the extended desktop the "primary monitor."
Depending on your video card, there are varying methods and hoops you might have to jump through to actually change the primary monitor. Search google for some help specifically to your card.

RIGHT click your desktop > go to PROPERTIES > go to the SETTINGS tab. Look at the check box in the lower left area. "Use this device as the primary monitor". This is the check box that must be changed. Unfortunately it isn't always as easy as just checking (or un-checking) the box.
