So, Crown's new XTi 2 series... just an upgraded faceplate and updated software for another $100?

So what in your life has gotten cheaper (besides the clients) in the last 4 years?  Probably nothing.

If the internal software shows any improvement (shelving filters in the output EQ, for example, or better limiters), it's worth the extra $100.

Then why not sell the firmware alone as a $100 upgrade? Money would have gone right into their pockets, and we wouldn't have to pay to ship it/sell the old one.

It sounds good, but it is a different chip not just a firmware upgrade. You will also now have 50 presets instead of 20 and more functionality in the subharmonic synthesizer.

Actually, the tough part was passing on the discounts on the older series back in November thinking "NAMM is just around the corner and they're undoubtedly introducing something new."

Coulda had some XTi 6000s for quite a discount there. :-(
