ITech 4000 on SRX 728's?
JOSEPH DIXON:
Well, I'm having a very hard time finding a USED ITech 6000. I'll have some tax money on Friday and I know where I can get 54 USED IT4000's for $1300.00 a piece. So I'll pick up the IT 4000 next week. I only need one IT4000 for 2 SRX 722's , but I can't find a USED IT 6000 (for the SRX 728's) anywhere.
So I thought I'd ask, how big of a difference would there be if I use an IT4000 instead of an IT6000 on the 728's? The main reason I want the IT 6000 for the subs is because there will be times I'm going to run two 728's a side off the amp. The 2 ohm stereo rating on the IT 6000 is a little better.
I'm sure the IT 4000 will be a big improvement over the RMX 4050HD I've been using on sub duty. Since I'm having a hard time finding a USED IT 6000, I may just get an IT 4000 for the subs as well. It just depends on how big the difference will be between the 4000 and the 6000 on the 728's.
I await your responses. Thanks everybody.

I'd think a 4000 would be fine for a pair and - as those amps don't seem to like 2 ohm loads all that much - I'd get a third 4000 for the second pair of 728's. Also that way if any one 4000 craps out you can repatch and keep going with reduced (around -3db) sub output.

Where have you seen that posted?
I did a LOT of searching on these amps before purchasing one and I never came across anyone saying they don't operate well on 2ohm loads.
I run (1) channel of my IT8k at 2ohms, doesn't seem to bother the amp at all.

It's not that I-Techs "don't like" 2 ohm loads, it's that due to current limiting needed to keep a 20 amp line cord, the amp has about the same current capability at both 2 ohms and 4 ohms. They are stable driving a 2 ohm load.

I'm going to need some new monitor amps in a little bit. Care to share the source of the IT4000s?
:-)
