At present the only way I know to do this is with an external computer connected via midi to the LS9. See below. Most of this information came from:
http://www.checkcheckonetwo.com/forum/showthread.php?998-Post-Fader-Direct-outs-on-LS9I have tested this set up and it works great, HOWEVER I have never yet used it live. In addition, there are some other interesting things you can do with this set up... read on!
Post-Fader Direct Outs On The LS9 Using Midi
It is possible to have post fader direct outs on the Yamaha LS9 by using an external computer, a USB midi adapter, and Bome’s Midi Translator Pro software. (
http://www.bome.com/midi/translator).
Post Fader Direct Outs are achieved by taking the channel level codes, sent via midi out from the LS9, and “translating” them into new midi messages that are sent back to the LS9 which proportionately raise and lower the levels of the direct outputs. Every time a channel fader is moved, the direct output level is changed accordingly. Bear in mind however that that you lose control of the manual level of the direct out. This is not likely to be a problem for most, at least not while using this setup.
In Bome Midi Translator set:
Incoming Midi Trigger: F0 43 10 3E 12 01 00 33 00 00 00 oo 00 00 00 qq pp F7
Outgoing Midi Trigger: F0 43 10 3E 12 01 00 2F 00 02 00 oo 00 00 00 qq pp F7
Make sure your preset is “checked” and in the pull down menu under TRANSLATE you select “Activate”.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the midi preferences in the LS9 are set so "Parameter Change" TX and RX are ACTIVE, and everything else is disabled. If the "Control Change" TX and RX are active, the translator will not work. Make sure they are disabled.
