Oh Boy, People!!!
« on: July 29, 2024, 11:59:47 AM »

Hi All.  What follows is a true story. The names have been omitted to protect the stupid.

Phone call:  Hi Scott. I was wondering if you can come and check out out wireless mic. A couple of them haven't worked for a while and we need some new ones, I think.

I arrived on scene a few days later to find 4 old Nady wireless units, 2 of them in the 600 frequencies.  I tell them this is why they are not working. It's a good thing you are out here in the sticks.  Yada, yada, yada.

Next day: Email, here are 4 units of good quality, legal frequencies etc.    Response: Looks good we will get back to you.

2 WEEKS Later: Can you come and tell us what's going on, we got these mics from a local DJ for a great price but they aren't working very well. And we can't get ahold of him.  They are called Vo Something Pro. We can only get 2 to work at once.

Sorry about that. I helped you all I could by saying that you really want to avoid paying twice.

Scott

"I'm so sorry, but I'm not a dealer for that brand - maybe they have an 800 number for support?".

Happens all the time. People will ask your advice, get it, then spend money elsewhere.  That's why advice is no longer free.  Customers want me to design a system, I charge for it. If they buy gear from me, cool.  If they buy it elsewhere, that's fine too.  If they buy something other than what I recommended, it costs even more for me to see if I can get it to work, with the disclaimer that there's no guarantee of the outcome of me working on gear I don't sell.
