RCF NX910 reviews?
JohnPinchin:
Has anyone here used the rcf nx910?
Main use would be for vocal monitors, but occasionally has centre fills on wide stages. I was going to get some of the nx12sma or 912sma but looking at the specs the nx910 has more power than the nx12sma, half the price and might work better for times when I want to use them elsewhere - rehearsals, small acoustic gigs etc.
Just wondered how well they work as monitors or if I should stick to dedicated wedges.

No but, using 710s for mons in my mini mobile rig...
As long as you don't expect excessive kick or bass in them, their audio performance is just fine. While having no experience of the 900 series, I certainly wouldn't expect a downgrade in performance.
Like so many plastic multi-purpose active cabs, the angle is frustratingly wrong for monitors. At around 45 degrees, in the compact environments you'll be using them in, they'll be pointing at the talent's knees. Don't know why the manufacturers get this so wrong. Nothing you can't fix with a small wooden wedge, but it leaves the XLR connector starting to conflict with the ground. The NX 12-SMA has the right form factor.
The sides of the plastic cabs will start to look worn if you're using them in monitor mode on hard floors/outside. Might be an issue for resale.
Both cabs you're looking at are pretty much identical weights at 16.6 and 16.8 kg
I love my 710s because they're small, punchy and stupidly light at 11 kgs - think they stopped using neo drivers after the MkI models.

Aren’t the NX910s the wooden cabinet upgrade of the 910s? They were in the running when I ultimately decided on Yammy DZR10s for the tops of my little PA system you guys helped me sort out.

Yes - NX910a are wooden, the art 910a are the plastic versions but I'd only use wooden cabinets.
If the nx12sma had been upgraded to the 9 series specs I would be able to justify the extra cost but at the moment I think the nx910a or possibly the nx912a look like they'll do a good job for monitors but there aren't many reviews out there.

Oops, my mistake for not looking at your opening post carefully enough.
Assuming all other things equal, NX910a would address all my issues with ART 710/910 - Decent monitor angle, feet to stop the surface getting scuffed, sensible connector panel location for use as a monitor (though the SMA's side connection panel would be better still) and, most importantly, wood.
Given how good my 710s sound, I can't believe the newer and wooden units wouldn't be an upgrade to an already good box. While you can't get down to the early 710s light weight, 16.5kg is still great for a wooden cab.
I'd also have a hunch that the NX910 would be more successful than the SMA in the event that you ever wanted to pop it on a stick and use it as a FOH/fill speaker.
You're starting to give me GAS...
