Hi Guys,  I just purchased a system that consists of 2 Yorkville YX18S Subs; 2 Yorkville YX15 Mains; and a Peavey CS800X amp.  It seems like the amp is not powerful enough to really drive the subs/speakers by itself.  I'm relatively new to AV and will be doing some outside DJ gigs (50-100 folks).  What amp would you recommend to really wake up this system?  Thanks!

What amp would you recommend to really wake up this system?

It would be ideal to have 400-500w per box but don't expect miracles, these are entry level speakers so you will find the limits fairly easily with more power on tap. That said I'd suggest you add a second amp like the Yorkville PX1700 and an active  crossover like a DBX 223 to properly separate the subs and mains, use the more powerful amp on the subs and smaller on the tops.

According to the spec sheets, the Yorkville YX18S is rated at 400 watts and the Yorkville YX15 is rated at 300 wats.  However, they don't list the typical RMS power rating. They list program rating.  Typically, program rating is 2x RMS rating.  Matching the RMS rating of an amp to the program rating of a speaker is about as much as you want to give.

The subs are 6 ohm speakers and the tops are 8 ohm cabinets.

The amp that you have is pretty close to ideal for what those speakers are going to be able to do.  If you get a bigger amp to 'wake them up' you'll end up putting them to sleep pretty quickly.

Getting a crossover and putting the tops on one side and subs on the other might help a little, but again, the gains you'll get will be pretty minimal.
