Quality pick for portable battery/inverter unit?

(1/7) > >>

Frank Koenig:
The bride-who's-into-generators thread got me lusting for one of those drink-cooler sized Li-battery/inverter/chargers that are everywhere now. They've been out long enough that the bugs might be worked out and we have some idea which provide the buy-once-cry-once solution. I don't want to get one that's impossible to repair or has crappy connectors, etc. Bonus points if it looks "serious", not too consumerish, and has recessed controls, bumpers, etc.

My applications would include small sound systems, computers and test equipment, portable power tools and maybe a microwave oven or rice cooker now and then. (I can do the sizing calcs once I choose a brand.) What do you all suggest?

I've had good luck with my EcoFlow.  Nice readout showing time left at the current draw and time left to charge

I purchased an Ecoflow Detla 2 Max from Costco. I used Costco in case I have any issues with Eccoflow's service.

These power stations are in their second generation, at least the Ecoflow ones with a "2" after their name are. This means fast charging, LiPo battery, MPPT charge controllers, 5 year warranty, and high output pure sine wave inverters.

The older units have very slow charging rates, LION batteries with less charging cycles and possibly more chance of fire, less efficient solar charging controllers, and weaker inverters that may not run high drain small appliances, so make sure you get a all of the feature I listed above.

The main players are Ecoflow, Anker, Jackery, and Bluetti. All are Chinese made. I have read good and bad experiences with all of them, hence why I purchased from Costco.

George Reiswig:
I have an original EcoFlow Delta and a little PECRON E3600LFP. Both seem to work well, and can power things like my X32R mixer and powered speakers in a pinch.

Side topic: has anyone actually scoped the "pure sine" outputs on these units? I did. They don't even resemble sine waves on my scope. I think the power supplies on most units don't care too much, but... I wonder if some equipment is going to be more picky about that.

I have used the Bluetti (2) AC200MAX a few times to power 5 and 6pc bands, including backline, (2) Powersoft T602, (1) Powersoft K3 & (1) Powersoft T304 along with a Yamaha DBR10 & SQ5. And once it was used to power (2) Crown MA5000i and (3) Crown XLS2500, with backline and SQ5. Works great. Levels were more of the community bag chair than concert, but no complaints. I do have the extension batteries to add for longer duration, but with these 3-to-4-hour events I usually have close to 40 to 50% compacity left.

This is a good read.
