Speaker Buzz Issue

(1/2) > >>

Eli Armstrong:
Hi guys,

Starting having a buzz issue with our PA a couple of days ago and for the life of me cannot work out what is causing it.

We run 2 amps (Both Nexo nxamp4x1), the first amp powers our Main L & R arrays and the second amp powers 5 smaller fill speakers. Just this past Monday, we started to get a buzz that only comes through the fill speakers running off that second amp the Main L & R has NO buzz. Even after unplugging all inputs running into amp 2, the buzz is still quite audible.

Both amps are plugged into the same outlet so I think it can't really be a grounding issue?

I've tried multiple scenarios, unplugging different speakon cables running to the amp, to see if it's a specific speakon cable but still no luck, buzz is on all lines.

Could the amp itself be the issue here? Or am I just not seeing what could be wrong?

Still a bit of a newbie to all this sound stuff so I hope this all makes sense, feel free to ask more questions if you need clarification.

Cheers.

After unplugging all the inputs to the amp and you still hear buzzing, sounds like it's the amp.

When you unplugged all the inputs were they all unplugged at the same time?
Checking the outputs one at a time with all other speakers lines unplugged there was still a buzz?
Does program audio still come through even with the buzz?

Ahh okay, I thought it could be the amp itself... It's only 4 years old as well...

Yep, all inputs were unplugged at the same time.
I did check each output one at a time and there was buzzing on all lines and yes program audio still does come through with the buzz.

I guess the next steps would be checking in to see what warranty could do about it?

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it :)

Mike Caldwell:
Just to double, triple check maybe try connecting a completely different speaker to the amp.

A few years ago had a service call about a humming/buzzing speaker, the negative side of the speaker line had gotten shorted to the building metal frame from some other work that had taken place in the building.

Probably not the problem in your case but strange things happen!!
