Hi Folks,

I'm looking for a dual-earhook headset mic to fit a big head.
A square dance caller, who calls from the floor, has a really big head.

For reference, my head is fairly big( 7 5/8" hat size) and I can just barely fit a Samson DE50X at its largest setting.
The caller's head is definitely bigger than mine.

Any suggestions?

I've tried a single earhook mic and clear medical tape and
the way he sweats, it ends up hanging oddly or just comes flying off.
So not a good option.

Check out Acacia Audio (it's the same as Thor, except without the price gouging), I've used them with multiple churches now.  They're the ultra-light style, similar to DPA, rather than the 'head-clamp' style. 

The Countryman Isomax Headset is another option I've had great experience with; it's a little larger than the Acacia, but comes in flesh color and can 'clamp' onto the head better.

The Shure DuraPlex DH5 can be opened quite wide.  It is a dual ear design and very light.  I just used one for a musical where the lead had a large cranium.

Does the mic need to be a micro style headset for this application?

I'm going to look in to the Acacia Liz Diamond Roadster.
My experience with the Isomax is it fits great with some, and not so well others.

Darin, the DH5 looks like a good option.

Mike, good question about size.  My preference is smaller, flexible and omni.
In the past I've used the Sennheiser HSP 4 cardioid, and it worked well with callers who were less active.
This guy is jumping around, moving his head, shouting and everything else.
Is there a particular mic you would suggest?

What wireless are you using.

Shure has a "fitness" headset SM31FH, PGA31, SM35.
Audio Technica ATM75, ATM73.

I maybe wrong but I'm thinking the larger style headsets would not be an issue
in this application.

Hi Mike,

Wireless systems are AT and Shure.
You reminded me I have an old AT Pro 8HEx I might try.
And I have an old Shure Beta53 to try, but memory says not for a big head.

And DOH! moment  -  I took a closer look at the DE50X and
I had only been extending the right earhook, and it turns out the left one also extends. 
It might be enough for the big head dance caller.
Still glad for this thread, expanded my mic knowledge.
