Rode NT4 phantom power issue

(1/1)

Taylor Phillips:
Hello all!

We've been using a Rode NT4 stereo microphone for drum overheads for a few months now.  Was working fine, but now can only get one channel to work.  Either capsule works by itself in any channel on the board, but when both channels are used, we just get signal in one.  Typically the Right channel, but a couple of times it was only the Left channel.  Both channels will work with the battery installed, but we'd rather not rely on that.  Seems like something doesn't want to send phantom power to both capsules.  Wondering if anyone might know what would cause that.  Phantom power is on for both channels at the board (LS9-32).

John Roberts {JR}:
You might try checking the 5 pin to dual xlr adapter for continuity with a VOM.

If one of the mics is not getting a solid pin 1 connection the phantom power will not work without the ground return path connection.

Or something else....   ;)

If you don't find it quickly and easily, use a battery. It's not like the mics are drawing any real current, the battery should last quite a while.
