Advice needed for new sound system for prayer hall
« on: February 19, 2024, 08:34:31 PM »

Hi i am new here.
I am an electrical and IT technician and need advice on building a new sound setup for a prayer hall with 2 stories/floors.
The floor area on each floor is around 1000 sq.ft.
They need the option to control the sound output either to both floor or separately to each floor.
Also advice needed how to choose speakers, i.e. what specs and features will best suit for prayers purpose ..
Thanks and sorry for being a noob

Thanks for the prompt response
Could u name some brand/models of these speakers that are "reverent"?
And do they have any special rating or classification to be qualified for this feature?

Prayers or satanic worship the same concepts of room design go on.

I don't need to see a legal document.  You have no first name?

Keep in mind that threads  to help pickout a pair of powered speakers comes out once a week at least.  You should be able to find one in the archive and ask some question based on that.

Sorry if I made an assumption on your surname..

Our old culture did not have the concept of having surname or given name, i was just given this name.
But new passports do separate them into Zaman and Ali.

Its okay, ur asking didn't offend.  Its just cultural difference.

Just a quick question, if 2 separate zones are required to have speakers with separate controls, then is the amplifier required to have 2 channels?

Passive speakers I assume?  Then yes each zone needs an amp channel.

Help us understand; are the prayers spoken or sung? Will any instrumentation be amplified through the same speakers?
How loud will it need to get?

The prayers are recited, its quite different from either speaking or singing.  There are specific rules and structure in recitation.
Can I share a link here to clarify, please see a sample of recitation in below link:
https://youtu.be/1_n0uBP4rxo?si=9piZtVukGzLgh2Mk

There are absolutely no instrumentation played as they are prohibited, only pure vocals.  The loudness in above clip should be uniformly heard at all corners of the prayer hall.

Post a couple pictures of the room.

Please see the main prayer hall in below 2 photos.  There is also a washing ablution area and a meeting room.
And on the upper floor, there is a similar hall for ladies.

With that room layout, low ceilings and what looks like hard solid concrete walls I would look multiple smaller speakers distributed though the room either mounted on the ceilings or on the pillars and walls. Doing that would put everyone close to the near field coverage of a speaker.

Yes the ceiling is just 10-11 feet high.
During prayer time, it is fully packed with people.  I worry that it would get too loud and unbearable for the person who is closes to the speaker, hopefully the smaller speaker would not be unpleasant.
How small should i go?  What power range in watts should i be looking for in the smaller speakers?

Google "ceiling speaker placement calculator" lot of them out there from most major speaker brands. Any of those will give you and idea of how many would be needed for the intended coverage, it will be more than you think for even coverage!

Hi Zamanali,

For the recitation,  aim the mic directly at the reciter's mouth, and have their mouth a little closer to the microphone.
This will lower the potential for feedback, and improve vocal clarity.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

I agree that multiple, smaller speakers located throughout the space will provide the best results in that space. That might suggest configuring a 70volt system.

I would suggest not fixating on wattage, as manufacturer's specs can vary from precise to absurd.  Look for a reputable brand speaker with reasonably flat frequency response from approximately 80Hz to 6-8kHz. If the ceiling will not permit recessed mounting, look for speakers that have their own enclosures.

I just want to update that i got the EuroSound EU-MA120 Amplifier together with EuroSound Ceiling Speakers BMCS20T/FDS.  I am now just waiting for the cables to arrive to complete the system.
Even though earlier I planned for supplying sound to two separate zones with their own controls, but i ended up with single output with this amplifier.
I wonder if i still have an option to configure controls separately for two different zones.

That's a mono amp, so the simplest way to get two zones would be to add a second one and link the inputs.

Or use 70V/100V volume controls if the zones you need to control only have a few speakers per zone.
