Who makes a decent 3-ft IEC Cable? I bought a few from one site and about half were bad. Trying to clean up and simplify  the light rig..

Amazon cheapies?

I usually seem to have plenty of them around, although when I was looking for short ones a few years ago I bought Volex. Unfortunately they don't seem to be available any longer from my usual suppliers.  More recently I bought some Tripp Lite IEC-to-IEC cables for linking cabinets.  They have survived two summers of constantly being set up and torn down with no problems.  Tripp Lite also has a locking version (that fits any IEC inlet) that has worked out well for my A&H digital stage boxes.  The Tripp Lite stuff is not cheap, but I don't feel too bad spending extra on mission critical stuff like AC cords.

I've used several hundred Monoprice IEC cables over the years and they've been great.

That's where these were from. Got 15.  8 bad so far. 6 were bad straight out of the box. Two quit after their first use.

I’ve bought short IEC cords and other stuff from Stayonline. Always happy. --Frank

Wow, that's disappointing. I wonder what changed since the last time I bought them. I've used literally hundreds of their IEC's over the years and I don't remember a single bad one.

Did you get in touch with the company? They're usually very responsive. At least in my experience.

Sounds like Monoprice got a bad batch from somewhere. There's no question that they have to be using various OEMs to keep their prices so low. I've bought a TON of ethernet cables from them and had a few be bad out of the bag, but they're so cheap and the rest have been so good that it's still a good value.

yeah, I'd contact them. I suspect they'd like to isolate the batch as much as you'd like to have a working product.

Cables2go has a large selection of IECs.  They also have my favorite: the 1 to 4 squid.

I didn't. They were so cheap I chalked it up to experience..

1 Edison to 4 IECs? That IS a great product.

I second this, and use them as well - not only for exposed items such as stage boxes and light fixtures but in rack gear as well that’s susceptible to vibration and coming loose over time.  Like many things, you get what you pay for.  I’m currently in an “Anti-Amazon Garbage Phase” though - especially for things that directly affect system safety and reliability…

One say with time on my hands, I measured several IEC cords in my spares box.
I used a 4 terminal, 6½ digit  Ohm meter.
I was surprised that some had a lot more end-to-end resistance than their printed AWG and length suggested.

For the UK/Type G users the ones I got included in a recent Thomann order as a freebee, 1.5mm² (16AWG) flex, normally short leads are either .75mm² or 1mm²
