Frequency Crossover Question QSC GX3 Amp

(1/3) > >>

ty falk:
Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to use the crossover on my QSC GX3 amp to send the low frequencies to a EV ZX1 sub and the high frequencies to my three EV Xi-1082's.

In the GX3 manual it says "When using crossover mode connect signal to channel one only. Should I just run one 1/4" balanced cable from my ART MX622BT mixer into the the amp (left or right?) or should I run both left and right out of the mixer and go into an adaptor to get both the left and right into channel one of the amp?

Is this the best way to run this set up or is another option possible without using the crossover and run it full range?

Thanks!

You'd use CH 1 input, the subwoofer output would be on CH 1 Output, and the top box output is on CH 2 Output.  If you need to be in stereo you will need another GX3.

Simply y-cord summing left and right may or may not work, you can give it a try and see/hear, but it's certainly not good practice.  Chances are good that your mixer will not like a Y.  There's a really good Rane tech note titled "Why Not Y" (or "wye" maybe) that explains what is going on and what to do if you need to sum two line level outputs.

As for full range, the answer is: no, the sub will be full range and not a sub, and may cause coverage issues at frequencies determined by distance.

Is this an installed or portable system?  Interesting choice of mixer.

This is the correct way to use the crossover but, as noted, it will not be stereo.
Also keep in mind the amp is rated to 4 ohms and should only drive 2 top cabs not 3.
You really need a second amp.

This is mainly used just in my garage with an occasional presentation for my business at small venues.

So it sounds like the best / easiest option is to just run mono audio into the amp. Which channel should I use coming from the mixer left or right? I know its an interesting choice of mixers but I wanted something rack mountable that only takes up one space so I have a small 3U setup. (I wanted 1U rack mountable, Bluetooth, balanced outs, master volume and a few other things and this one was the best option)

Thanks so the insights!

Sounds like I should just remove one speaker and go with two tops and run mono. If I left it with the 3 would I be looking at damaging the units?

Would be fine to run two tops off one channel and one top off another channel if I wanted to leave three set up without a sub?

If I wanted to be in stereo and use full range would the sub just not work as well with the low frequencies? Any possible damage?

Thanks
