I too have been using QSC PL380's for years pushing passive SRX718's and SRX828's without breaking a sweat. Great amps indeed!

A friend of mine had a a couple of QSC PL380 pushing a pair of JBL Vertec 4880 and did not have the punch until he switched to Crown I Tech 8000 and and made a difference. JBL recommends powering the 4880 between 3200-4000w at 4 ohms if wired parallel. The QSC PL380 is a great amp but I feel that it was a gaining structure issue and not the amp itself.

The best subs on earth are the ones that finish the gig and help earn your next one. The rest is snobbery. Clearly your customers like it.

I finished blowing some of the grille foam off my Community VBS112s from the 90's at a parking lot show where all calculations would say I didn't have 'enough' sub. I had enough bass to keep up with the mains through the whole set without blowing anything up, and got lots of positive comments on sound (and the band looks forward to working with me again). New foam is on the way.

Agree. Use what you have and make it work.

Hi, currently I sold my QSC PL 6.0 amp which I was using to drive a pair of subs per side and have to admit I really love the power and sound quality the 6.0 produce but it was too heavy and heard the if it failed, the parts are not available anymore.  Now I dont have a sub amp at the moment then came across a Lab Gruppen FP6400 near me that I am interested in getting. What I need is about a least 2k per side at 4 ohms. I would driven with an Behringer X18 and a Dbx Driverack PA2. Any opinions? Thanks

The FP6400 (and various OEM versions) is a great amp, lots of power reserve.  Runs well on 120v and built like a battleship.  I think we are up to 10 of them with no issues.  Between those the Yamaha P7000's (which don't have as much power) and a few Crown XTI's that's all our amp inventory.  We had the most trouble with QSC PL2's but many love those amps.

Wow... the 'ol Community VBS112. I use to have a pair of VBS212's that were essentially given to me when I bought a used set of SLS960's. LOVED the 960's, just too heavy for me to lift by myself since they weigh as much as I do. But amazingly, the 212's with the Community system controller made it work. The subs didn't go super low, but they sounded great and were very musical in combination with the 960s.

Thanks for the responses. I will still be getting the FP6400 but also a Crown IT6000. Since I dont have a gig this month until next month, I am going to sell my current Behringer EP4000 which was used for the JBL Mpro tops. So between the the Lab Gruppen and Crown, which would you use for the tops and for the subs?
