One of my DZR12's rattles during frequency sweeps at around 180Hz and 250Hz. The rest of the sweep sounds fine. Since it is only around these frequencies I'm wondering if something is loose, or is it really a bad driver?

Thoughts? If I open it up to look for loose fittings will Yamaha void my warranty?

Problem solved. One of the screws that holds the compression driver to the plastic horn had backed out big time. I want to thank Steve at Third Ear Sound in Hayward, CA (Yamaha service center). I called him up and he suggested I pull the horn and look for loose screws on the back before bringing it in. Saved me a bunch of time when he could have easily made a few bucks off the deal.

I opened my other DZR12 just to make sure and found a T-nut stuck to the magnet! Guess it wasn't a good day at the factory...but at least the screws were tight.

May want to take a look around the box to see if that is supposed to be holding something in place.

Yep, that was my first thought. I poked around a bit but everything seemed in order. Someone probably had a handful of T-nuts as they were installing and didn't realize they dropped one. It's not the first time I've found extra fasteners floating inside a piece of equipment.

I had a JBL SRX728 that had the hanging bracket from when it was painted floating around inside.  Yeah, stuff happens.  It shouldn't, but it does.

I recently had a similar issue on one of my DXR8s - there were a couple screws lose that held the woofer in place which caused a rattling.

Now I try to pop the grills off and make sure everything is tight every few rentals or so.
