Dear Members,

Any suggestions on what I can use to trigger quick audio playback from a press box?  Example: A team scores a touchdown.  I want to immediately play a "cheer" track/jingle without having to cue to a track as would be the case with a CD/MP3/USB player. 

Something akin to the pads on the Rode Rodecaster mixer but I don't need the mixer.  Really just looking for a device to upload about 6 - 10 short MPS/WAV files into and trigger playback of each with the press of a button to make it easy for the announcer.  No iPad/iPhone apps please (looking for a hardware device that can be dedicated to this purpose).

What about a simple and inexpensive sample pad like this:     Alesis Sample pad

The standard device for this purpose has for year been the Instant Replay. It has the most straightforward UI of any playback device I have seen, I own 2 of them for the live events I do.

It ain’t cheap, but is probably the best tool for the job.

Debbie I considered them but I believe (and correct me if I am wrong) that if the announcer hits the pad to start the track, and then hits it again before the track is completed (by mistake), it will re-start the track (something I don't want).

Thank you! I didn't know this existed to be honest.  Due to the price, I will specify this an "optional" feature should the customer have the budget.  P.S. Too bad there isn't a smaller model (e.g., 20 hot keys instead of 50 for price-conscious installs).   But this is NICE!

I like the StreamDeck idea.  I use one for automating live streaming tasks and my only hesitation here is it requires a computer/laptop, which I am worried will find "feet" in a high school press box in no time.  I'd have to find a way to secure it in a lockable rack.  The SD can be programmed to playback tracks even without Q-Lab which keeps it super simple.  Thanks for the idea!

Depending on how much memory and processing you need (and how willing you are to sort out software yourself), might something like a raspberry Pi (with aforementioned streamdeck) be an option? Much more discreet to stash away somewhere inconspicuous, and less expensive to replace if it does go walkabout.
