Source for those screw on 1/8"-1/4" headphone adaptors?
« on: May 24, 2023, 02:50:31 PM »

I don't recall seeing this discussed much. Anyone have a good source for the adaptors for Sony or Sennheiser headphone cables that have the threads? I definitely like the screwed on adaptors when plugging into a console.

Is that the same thread as on AKG 240's?

I have a pile of them in parts cabinet in my workshop and there are several different size threadings and spacing. Some don't work at all on some sets of phones and some work with the mono cancellation effect you can get with mis-aligned contacts.
So by no means are these a standard.
I just lop off the 1/8" and put on a proper Neutrik 1/4" TRs connector for all my production and studio headphones.  In all the workboxes and FOH racks there's a pigtail type 1/8" to 1/4"F adaptor if something with an 1/8" needs monitoring.  They hardly ever get used anymore. Mobile devices are mostly bluetooth now and for critical uses I go with a proper USB interface or DVS.
My main headphones now are by Sony and they do bluetooth noise cancelling for personal listening but have a detachable cable that allows bypass of all the internal electronics for cabled usage -with the earspeakers driven directly from that cable (which has a permanent 1/4" on it now)

I like this idea. But I still find myself plugging into prosumer video gear (ATEM, Atomos etc) and a lot of laptops that are all 1/8". And I often need to bounce the cans back and forth between devices. Any adaptor is annoying. But maybe pigtail adaptors are the best option.

Food for thought.

Yep. I went into a RS for some electronics components (caps, resistors?) and the clerk had no idea they had "stuff like that, what's it used for?"  Then they tried to sell me Dish and a cell phone plan.  I never went back and it was a couple years later that RS started shutting stores.
