SlimPar 64 malady
« on: April 23, 2023, 01:35:15 PM »

We are using some older Chauvet Slimpar 64s for floor/uplighting. DMX control for these are flaky,i.e.,Randomly not responding to commands, changing colors without a command or by being bumped. All dmx cables are being used. Terminator in place or out makes no difference. Lights are in 3 channel.mode. Sound activation is not a factor as.far as l can tell. The sensitivities are all at.min also, but again,it's not in sound mode. All other lights work fine.Any thoughts about what's going on and how to correct it?++

A band I used to work for owned 16 Slimpar 64s (4 four-par bars) and 4 movers.  We fought endless DMX flickering issues until the band leader got a DMX splitter.  Once each of the four light trees was on its own run from the splitter, our DMX issues pretty much went away.  I don't know how many fixtures you have in total, but powered DMX splitters are pretty cheap, so you may want to give one a try.

If there is a wonky fixture in the chain, it can cause all sorts of issues.  Bypass them one at a time and see if it gets better.
Also, wireless Tx/Rx will act as splitters and keep different chains isolated.

I'm in agreement as well that either an opto-isolator or (dare I say it) wireless DMX can help to isolate a bad fixture or cable.

Which console/controller are you using?  Sometimes adjusting the DMX speed can help correct issues like this where the problem can't be isolated to a single "bad" unit.

Good luck!
