Any LED house lights to look at in 2023?
« on: April 18, 2023, 08:24:58 PM »

Something like the Chauvet light looks great, but boy howdy they ain't cheap. Especially when you're looking to buy a couple hundred of them. I'd be happy with a High CRi Warm White, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at a full color fixture either.

What is out there that might be under 800 bucks a fixture?

Pathway - remote driver
Gotham
Liton

There are many brands that are almost the same, such as Liton, Gotham, and many others.  Pathway lighting is slightly unique in that you don't need an electrician, which if you're DIY install, can potentially save you extra money.

You're not going to find anything decent, with real output, for $200-ish a fixture.  For decent DMX controlled fixtures, figure $500+ to nearly $1k, for the cheaper (but non-junk) ones.

The best lights are ChromaQ and The Light Source, but both are around double your budget.

I second the ChromaQ. We installed 20 of them about 5 years ago and there have been no failures. Its one of those products that just works.

Installed 40 Altman Chalice 100 3000K white houselights in a local auditorium in 2015. Work beautifully and no failures.
These were DMX but they offer both DMX and mains dimmable. 5 year and one day warranty.

+1 for ChromaQ, although I'm somewhat biased having been one of the people working at AC Lighting when they were released.

House lights should be considered architecture and not production, from a budget standpoint.   The expectation is that a current LED fixture or moving light in production has a useful life of about 5 years, give or take.  Most production fixtures are also relatively easy to reach for service or re-hanging.

Architectural lighting goes in the most awkward, difficult to access and service locations.  That requires a higher level of reliability and MTBF as access may cost more than the replacement fixtures or parts.  It is what it is.

Hey Tim, these are also way above your budget but I thought you might be interested in this article at CB.

I had a bunch of Fuze fixtures at the last job and the PSU's kept dying on me. I hope they built the house lights a little better.
