Lithium Ion “power strip” style UPS
« on: April 18, 2023, 01:24:50 PM »

Anyone found a lithium ion, lightweight small power strip UPS? It’s to live in the console doghouse.

Hi Andrew,

APC used to have the BG500:
 https://www.apcguard.com/BG500.asp
I still have a couple and they work well.
They were expensive  -  I bought mine when they were on sale.

How big do you need? :
 https://www.xpcc.com/products/j60/

    There are several rackmount options.

A Lithium power supply  can do 120V, and 5V USB and 12V :

     Budget option:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0713XJBG2?th=1&psc=1&language=en_US
UL listed???

Youtube has several posts about converting a Lead-acid UPS to Lithium.
Definitely no UL approval.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

If you go the route of a battery inverter power supply confirm that it will work in a UPS mode, that is provide power while charging. The Ego unit we have does not. It wasn't an issue for our application but it was a surprise to discover that it could charge or run but not both at once.

I think this is the ticket. The others are too big and heavy.
This one uses LiFe batteries.

Wow, a UPS that only weighs 3.5 lbs and is small enough to fit into an airline "personal item" (let alone a suitcase) would be ideal for a fly-pack rig. You do pay for those features, though!

Slightly off-topic, would not the airlines object to a Lithium Ion UPS in checked baggage?

That's probably why this thread is about Lithium Iron batteries not "ion".

Loose spare batteries only. Devices with Lithium-Ion batteries installed are allowed on most airlines.
