The Yamaha DXS subs are pretty decent for compact subs if you’re trying to stick to one brand. Really wish Yamaha made a killer 2x18. Would compliment the DZR line nicely.

I'll second that. Would love it if they had a 218 in the DZR line.


OP, you can't go wrong with the Yamaha DSR/DZR stuff. It really lives up to the hype. I'd also consider the older QSC HPR line if you can get a great deal on it. Although it's heavy, that older HPR stuff worked and sounded great.

I haven't been very impressed with EV's powered stuff. I mean, its OK, but it just doesn't stand out as great. Same with the newer JBL stuff too. Yamaha is killing it in this market. The stuff Yamaha puts out in the MI market is as good as some of the higher end dealer-only systems you pay a whole lot more money for.

Anyone have a chance to compare the Yamaha subs with the JTR stuff? (esp the 212). If I ever upgrade my subs I figure it is between the JTR 212 and the Yamaha DXS15XLF, leaning toward the Yamaha simply because my mains and monitors are already all Yamaha and like Tim, I've been very impressed with them.

The DZR range is a level above the DXR range, so no surprise that the sub can't keep up.  That said, you almost always need multiple subs to keep up with a decent top.

I used them for a bar gig this week, this bar is not a super great spot for sound, as you cant really get your subs in a great spot, I used the Presets on the DSP which crosses over at 100 it seems, and also adjusts the gain on the subs to -2DB, At first I thought it was just ok. but due to the set up compromises once i found a good spot where i could really hear, the subs More then kept up with the tops. I was very impressed with them over my old Turbosound IQ stuff (of course these are more expensive so I expected this), I cant wait to get them into a better room, where i can get a better represantation of them. I also was not providing music inbetween (just strictly sound for the band at this gig) so will be interesting to hear them with some tracks playing through.

If you are using the crossover output from the sub to feed the top you probably need to adjust the gain settings that are only accessible in the digital menu.

We've definitely had to do that in our situation.

Gonna need at least another pair of subs to keep up with the DZR's.

But as it stands, they sound fantastic and are a great value.

Friend purchased a DXS15XLF & DZR12 to use as his drum fill. He is more than happy!

Definitely had to dial the 12 back because they will tear your head off as a drum fill!
