During the past couple of weeks I have been digging into old posts (back to 1.12.2011) just to see what was hip back then.
...and recall some on MY earlier posts from that decade...

There was mention that older posts (early 2000's?) may have been archived somewhere....

Is there a place to access older/archived Lab/Lounge discussions?

?

Mike, check the SR Archived Forums. It goes back to 2004.
The names back then give me goosebumps. We ARE standing on the shoulders of giants.

Hey is this thing on?

Yep!
I think the new breed of sound folk think that because they can operate a tablet, they can operate a sound rig. They don't want to know about anything other than the console. It's sad...

....and thinking connecting a mixer out to speaker input is all there is to doing sound and yet many times
even that gets messed up!

Hey is this thing on?

Biscuits and Peas.

Yeah, trying to catch up on the ol' To-Do list (finally got a Four Mix biamp monitor rack done yesterday).

What's everyone else up to?

I'm packing up a rig to send to a Women's retreat that features a full band, but I won't be there to run it. I expect a lot of panicked phone calls this weekend.

My millennial kid, who does the actual sound gigs, doesn't have any real desire to hang out on a pro/semi-pro audio forum. He will mine my knowledge, go to a YouTube tutorial or a Google owner’s manual if he needs to troubleshoot anything, but he is pretty adept at doing his business without a forum. Come to think of it, how did we do sound before the 90s without a forum?

Millenial here. I start most of my days by making a cup of coffee and catching up on new posts here. That being said, I know I'm in the minority among my demographic. I have a feeling a lot of younger folks don't even know these forums exist for similar reasons why newspapers are going out of print, it's just no longer the preferred method of consumption. I find them constructive, useful and much less "noisy" than other mediums or groups. To each their own.

I think the new breed of sound folk think that because they can operate a tablet, they can operate a sound rig. They don't want to know about anything other than the console. It's sad...

For what it's worth, I've also seen lots of people much older than me with the same approach. People have been misunderstanding our trade and looking for shortcuts since it's inception, and that's one thing that will never change.
