USB or Firewire Sound Card With AES In & Outs
« on: April 06, 2011, 05:10:53 AM »

Hi,

We looking for a compact USB or Firewire audio interface that is just AES in & out, the unit must lock to the incoming AES so that the AES out is in sync. We currently have some Metric Halo 2882's for this use but it seems a waste having such a capable ( and large ) box to do something so simple, the only other interface I've found is this:

Any other suggestions?

Hi,
If you have a Mac with Mini-Toslink inputs and outputs that can deal with optical SPDIF, you might consider just converting them to AES. I just picked up a Hosa ODL 312 for under $100 to see if it's good for that. There are a few more expensive options as well. With an MIO that has the 2d upgrade, it could add a second AES I-O using its Toslink option.
