Speaker selection
« on: February 20, 2023, 08:45:24 PM »

We have a 50ft wide x 70ft deep church sanctuary. Which one of the two pa cabinets listed below would be better and why?
JBL AM5212/00 12-inch 2-way Loudspeaker or the JBL SRX812 12 inch Passive Speaker?

Going to need need a little more info.

How high is the ceiling in the room.
What kind of program content will the system be used with.
How is the room finished out.

10ft side walls up to 15ft in center ceiling height.
We are a church with a full band and 5 vocals and very dynamic pastor.
Room has sheetrock walls, carpet floors, and acoustic drop ceiling tiles.

What kind of SPL are we talking?

And do you have subwoofers?

Measure twice, and cut once; this is especially important if you are a mohel.

You should be looking at something like two center hung arrays of two speakers each.
One for the mains and another 2/3rds ish way back for delay fills.
Covering that depth with that ceiling height will be a challenge.

The JBL 5212/00 has too wide of dispersion, the SRX812 would be slightly better. Look at something with a larger format HF driver and around a 60 X 60 horn pattern.

I have installed these in projects before they punch above their weight the processor needs to be purchased with the speakers but they are fantastic http://www.yorkville.com/installation/coliseum/product/fh1w/
Sixty degree conical horn with mid range and high  drivers mounted in the same horn mechanically aligned If you want research unity horn

That seem really low on the SPL on any scale.
What have you measured it with and from where at.

Those are very standard levels for evangelical worship services.
