Long looms from stage pedal board to wireless rack unit
Steve Litcher:
What’s the best way to wire/build an unbalanced 1/4 TS jack to an XLR, over a long run of distance? Working large venues (arenas) and have worked with bands that have 100ft looms that work really well. I’d like to build a few looms for myself to have as backups. Worried about sending an instrument signal that long of a distance.
Trying to avoid converters and any type of DI boxes. I did a 7-week run with a band that had 3x 75-100 foot looms that did this exact same thing and they were great, so while it may not be “proper” to do it this way, people are doing it in the wild.
Do you typically bond cold and neutral together at the unbalanced end? Or skip the ground? Or some other method?

The Radial SGI is the way to go here.
Yup it is a converter. but it is gold in situations like this.

Why wouldn't you just run a DI and XLR? XLR can easily run 100'.
Scott Helmke:
Your title is confusing - why would you have a 100' loom of wire to go from the guitar to a wireless pack?
If you're referring to a long cable from the receiver to a pedalboard and back, then the active buffered signal from the receiver and hopefully from a pedal with a good clean output would make 100' work OK.

When you did your 7 week run with a band doing this, why did you not ask them?
