SHAFT actor Richard Roundtree, age 81.

RIP Mr. Roundtree.

Roundtree's performance as John Shaft was cool.  Isaac Hayes' work on the movie soundtrack was masterful.  Shaft blazed the trail for Beverly Hills Cop.

A couple of amazing drummers have left us recently. Dom Famularo and Aaron Spears.

Both were guys that were on my list to meet someday and just never had to the chance to. Dom battled cancer, and Aaron just passed away today so no cause of death given yet.

While not a musician he had attitude that earns him mention here .

Bobby Knight the famous basketball coach asked to be buried face down so all his critics could kiss his ass.

Maybe not entirely the scope here, since politician's wife, but 'celebrity' -

Rosalynn Carter, aged 96.

Maybe not entirely the scope here, since politician's wife, but 'celebrity' -

Rosalynn Carter, aged 96.

I, and probably others here, did sound for her once, when Jimmy was running for re-election, so she qualifies for inclusion here as an artist AFAIC. I know I did my best to make her sound good just as with any musician.

I did lighting and staging for that event with her, too, which was in a mansion around here, and rented the podium for the presenter to stand on. Since it was mainly about her and there was no place to put a stage big enough to hold all the local luminaries, I got a 4' circular thing, as I recall. Not tall enough to need a step. Lighting was a couple of ellipsoidals at the back of the room, since there was also no place up front to inconspicuously put tripods, and certainly nothing to hang anything from.

The setup was fairly early in the day for a late afternoon speech with preceding speeches, so I was set up several hours before go time with everything up.

Some political operative who seemed to feel she had a say in the proceedings charged up to me not long after I was set up, and lit into me about how the lighting was terrible and too bright (not so), and the "stage" was way too small and several other things. I said that it was done and there was nothing to do about it at this point, and that the lighting would be adequate for the press and the stage would be adequate for one speaker at a time.

She was having none of it but realized there was nothing to do, so for the next several hours I got to hear her loudly enter the room, look around, and yell "This Is Terrible!!11!!" and storm out, only to return half an hour later and do the same thing, until people arrived.

The crowds of invited audience, TV people, and local dignitaries showed up as expected, audience was able to see the person talking, TV people got their audio and video shots (and told me the lighting was fine for their purposes), the officials not speaking at the moment got to sit on the floor behind the one speaking, Mrs. Carter was visible and audible and went around the room and shook everyone's hand, including mine, and left.

The person who thought everything was terrible was not seen or heard from again. Because of that gig, I got one a month later with Vice-President Mondale.

RIP, Mrs. Carter. Good luck, Jimmy.

Chris.

Alternately described as a "projecting USA power" diplomat, and war criminal.  The safe statement is that he left an indelible mark on history.
