Ocean Way AeroWave speakers
« on: April 05, 2023, 04:25:49 PM »

Just came across these speakers in an email. They're horn loaded point source speakers and they're heavy and huge. I thought Danley had the horn loaded market sewed up. I'd be curious to hear them but I'm sure I never will.

It takes physical size to have pattern control down low.  There is no way around that.  The physics simply does not allow it.

And size usually means weight.

They tick both those boxes

Dimensions (AW9090):   176”H x 48”W x 58”D
Dimensions (AW9045):   87”H x 48”W x 37”D
Weight:   AW9090: 950 lbs., AW9045: 450 lbs.

Looks like a fixed line array to me.  A whole lot of drivers in those boxes.

And to think we had issues getting our Warp II's through some venue doors back in the 70's.

Dave,

Dan Szymanski (sp?) used to run a Minneapolis sound company, Anicom in the 1970's using "Warps", were the Warp II a 2x15" fiberglass covered bass bin from there?

Yes Art.

We purchased four Warp II's from Dan - along with a Console that had three Allen + Heath 6 channel modules interconnected and a built-in electronic crossover. Think we also got some JBL 2440's on giant horns and some monitor wedges from Anicom.

Our band was in Eau Claire, WI at the time.

Just hate companies that toss out lines like this:
"AeroWave is the first of its kind, ever, to offer true, pristine, interference-free, high-fidelity stereo sound for large audiences."

I would hate to think that Meyer, l'Acoustics, d&b, Danley and so many others we've invested in over the years were lying to us all that time.  Bummed I wasted all that money on (apparently) crap.

But seriously, sounds like audiophoolery to me. As if we were all piling into large auditoriums just to listen to a nice "stereo" set!
I for one go for the act on the stage and prefer to have my PA just amplify that in the most transparent fashion possible.  Doesn't look like you could actually see around these monster boxes enough to actually focus on the stage!
