MIDAS Pro2c - per channel compression on matrix output?
« on: November 30, 2022, 06:22:22 AM »

I'm a production coordinator for a church - we have a MIDAS Pro2c console - we have an in-house/master mix, and a matrix mix for our livestream online. I'm able to add compression to the overall livestream matrix mix, but am I able to add per channel compression to the mix going to the livestream without impacting on the per channel compression on the in-house mix?

For example, we have a mix of worship music, announcements, and a talk/sermon. I'd like to have a lot more compression on the livestream matrix for just the microphone being used for the talk/sermon, than for the worship music segments - but I don't want to impact the compression settings that are used for the in-house mix - is this possible?

Simplest way is probably to split that input to 2 channels, compress one harder for the stream & one less for in-house.
Assign them both to the same DCA if you still want the convenience of one fader to control the level of both.

Good idea, thanks for this!

This is the way I'd certainly do it. K.I.S.S. Ain't life grand? Used to need an XLR "Y" in analog days..

Depending on how many channels you need, you could patch the direct outs on the channels post processing into the effect rack and run them through a SQ1 and then through a matrix mixer.

Put the channels next to each other on the board and link them, but exclude dynmics and pan. Or even EQ if you want different tonality. Then only assign the 'left' channel to a mixing layer.
