Subwoofer for drummers monitor mix
« on: November 25, 2022, 05:17:39 PM »

I was kicking around the idea of adding a subwoofer under my JBL615 for the drummer's monitor mix as a few of my clients ask for kick drum in their mix.The JBL has been doing OK. Just putting out feelers for product suggestions and opinions.
Thanks
John

Probably a PRX815XLF or PRX818XLF? Though for logistics a dual 15 cab looks tempting...

I used to run a passive 12" using an Eminence 3012LF in a small cab.  200-300 watts to get it excited.  450 to make it melt.  Used the same in my bass rig for years.  Sold it to another local sound guy who loves it.  I reimplemented using a 3015LF.  Larger cab but...  can also work as an FOH sub in smaller rooms.

Easily built.  SpeakerHardware.com has flat packs and build instructions.    See fEarful 12 & 15 sub.  I still ise a 15/6 as my larger stage bass rig.

I wonder if something like this may work. I know many years ago I had a 2nd generation Peavey SP4 with a bridged cs800x on it for 1200 watts going to the box and never got a single complaint. One lug for plug and play.

With 2 of this type, you could always rent them out. Although a 2-15 and horn is not the best box it still has uses.

If it is dedicated for drum monitor use, just abut any powered sub out there would work. I was impressed by both EV and Mackie recently for the $$$ and size/weight.

So would the scaled down, club level version of "Texas Headphones" be called "Rhode Island Headphones?
Carry on.
