Why would anyone need this?

Follow the wandering SM around, and hit him with some 4K when he goes out of bounds?
I'm sure "marketing" had some thoughts in mind..
Reading the blurb, I don't get it.

This one is a bit of a bafflement - maybe museum immersive ?

IMO - KArray does some interesting stuff in the install market.  The brick and waterproof flexi snake were pretty interesting last time I did NAMM.  Those guys were thinking outside the box.

Immersive is about the only thing I can think of. Set off with a large dome, put 20-30x speakers inside, have them follow you as you move around, update levels and delays accordingly...

It'd be a solo experience, but an interesting one.

I'm not sure about the camera, but I saw this same idea probably 10 years or so ago at a trade show, and thought to myself "What would this be used for and why would they make it, and how many could they possibly sell?".

I don't remember the manufacturer of the one I saw.

Your link says "range of applications including live ‘on stage’ monitoring, theme park installations, airports, train stations, CCTV home security, DJ effects and theatre installations,"

This has been around for a while, and has been confusing since the start.

I like the possibilities, though...

For the price, you can get a REALLY nice IEM rig..... or 3.
Considering a range (on your average LOUD stage) of 3 to what, 8 or 10 feet?

Let me know when someone comes up with a need to acoustically follow someone around....

Here's the thing though, how directional is it? Unless it only has say 15 degree coverage pattern, I can't see this being too useful as just pointing in a general direction you'd hear it.

Even then though, like how would you program it...if it's a stationary listener, it's kind of an on/off them thing...if it's a moving listener, you wouldn't be able to actively track them?
