DMX controller cannot control Martin Atomic 3000
« on: August 10, 2019, 03:36:19 PM »

I have a 192 ch DMX controller that works with the connected smoke machine.
The Atomic 3000 doesn´t work. The address is correct and it is in 1ch mode.
The DMX light is flashing on the strobe.
The strobe works in standalone mode.
The cables are OK
Controller -> smoke machine -> strobe: smoke works, strobe doesn´t.
Controller -> strobe -> smoke machine: smoke works, strobe doesn´t.
Controller -> strobe: strobe doesn´t work.

I don´t have a replacement strobe to test at the moment.

What have I overlooked?
Any suggestions?

Hi Timmy, how old is the fixture?  I believe all Atomics use the standard DMX pinout, but some early Martin DMX fixtures would reverse pins 2 and 3.  That’s the only thing that comes to mind - along with using a terminator.  Hope this helps!

Yes. Old Martin fixtures used a non-standard pin-out as Jeff describes. They are a total PITA.  If you don't want to switch the pin-out on the fixture, making a pair of adapter cables will (should) fix the problem. I say a pair of adapters, because you want to normalize the connection going on to the next fixture.  Make the adapters distinctive (one silver and one black cord end, colored cable, or similar) so you don't grab them by mistake and give yourself a new problem to chase down.

Does the Atomic 3000 have a single channel mode?

I have the Atomic 3000 LED, and it does 3/4/14 channel modes, with the 3/4 modes being listed as for compatability with the original Atomic 3000.

it does, but that particular mode is pretty clunky to use;

1 CH Mode
0 - 5 Blackout
6 - 249 Flash rate, slow to fast
250 - 255 Continuous “Blinder” effect

My only suggestion outside of what everyone else has said is to double check both the mode and address settings

I have finally had time to compare with a working Atomic 3000.

The non-working strobe has the correct pin configuration.
The DMX light shows activity.
The flash tube is working.

This strobe doesn´t work in any of the modes because there might be a defect
somewhere in the controlling part of the electronics.

Thanks for your help and time.

Hey there,
I know this is over a year late, but I found your thread looking for the solution to a similar problem.  I believe that one or more of the P600K rectifier diodes are shorted on the circuit board.  Hope this helps someone! :D

Mine was doing the same thing and the "Flash" LED remained on.
