No more Strand Lighting
« on: July 13, 2022, 11:45:13 AM »

It seems that Signify is doing away with the Strand brand.

They will instead move things over to the VariLite brand.

Sadly this doesn't surprise me.  Vari-Lite aside Stand made about zero effort over the past 15 years to compete with ETC in the theater market for both consoles and fixtures, and with others like Chauvet edging in with product lines such as Ovation there's really isn't a market share left to justify Strand's existence.

Reading more into this, the bankruptcy filing had little to do with sales or business at all.  It's a strategical move by the parent company to thwart off lawsuits against asbestos use within the instruments.  Whether they keep the brand name or not is yet to be determined, but the parent company isn't going anywhere.

Other discussion over at the Control Booth...

Thanks for sharing Tim - I'd actually been following that too.  I'm sure there's quite a strategy that goes into these larger conglomerate business decisions regardless of the asbestos concerns.

I still stand by my statement though that Strand and even Vari-Lite have done little to make waves in the industry over the past decade.  Most of the Strand and Vari-Lite users/owners I know just use them because they have them.
