speaker sock fabric ?
« on: May 21, 2022, 08:05:54 AM »

Hi Folks,

I need white speaker socks to dress up some main speakers for weddings.
These are columns, about 5" X 5" x almost 6' long.
I haven't found anything pre-made, so am looking at having them sewn locally.
Am looking for fabric that will have minimal HF attenuation.
Rose has a bunch of different fabrics:

    What would you use?

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

Weogo,

I've always done a "breathability" test at the local fabric store, if you can breath through it easily, it won't absorb and attenuate HF.
Organic fibers can be breathable, but do absorb some HF, open weave synthetics like nylon and polyester don't.

Here is an example of some stretchy poly:

Polyester double-knit fabric was commonly used as 'grill cloth' for both home and studio speakers.

("Was" because I haven't really looked at the home or studio speaker markets in a long long time.)

Give www.streachshapes.net a look.  They have a lot of products available in stretch fabric.
