sometimes the router bits get dull...

JR

Then the current in the motor goes up.

At my day job, back when we manufactured aircraft bulkheads from billet aluminum chunks on huge Cincinnati Milacron 3 head turret milling machines, they would monitor motor current to know when they needed a bit change.

I put it down to growing wi - fi traffic.

This is the likely cause. Audience comes in. Traffic increases. Scan for clear channels.

On the other hand, are routers entirely digital silicon? Don't there have to be analog components to the antennae?

By the way, skip hiding your SSID. Devices can still see that there's something, and will try to connect.

X-32 rack setup. I had a weekend where 2 nights in a row my normal router/iPad setup seemed to ‘tire.’
After a short time control got more sluggish after about 20 minutes. On one show I kept switching back and forth between 2.4 and 5G…it worked for awhile then same symptoms. Can I test this? Thoughts?

Let me share with you what worked wonders after having those kind of problems myself.
i tried several Dlink, and Netgear stuff with mehh results

until i found this
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1089828-REG/tp_link_cpe510_5_ghz_300.html
best decision ever made in it is only 49.99 bucks

only thing is that you need to have your host mix device 5Ghz band compatible
I mix from an Samsung Tab A 10" tablet with no problems and sometimes with my cell with cero failures even with a second generation ipad with zero issues

the range is insane!! i mean compared to the normal "routers" , insane is more than 150 ft with full bars of wifi strength
this thing have a dual polarized antenna ( and variable power, i have it mine to just 1/4 of total RF power)

it also have a spectrum analysis function so you can see if there is overlapping 5ghz devices and you can set your operating channels on the less crowded area
and your bandwidth accordingly and your modulation scheme

plus is weather ruggedized and the plastic is UV stable
works like an AP , BRIDGE , REPEATER and some more stuff
setup the CPE510 in AP with DHCP mode

CPE510
IP           10.20.30.1
mask      255.255.255.0
gateway  0.0.0.0
DNS        0.0.0.0

DHCP POOL
10.20.30.50  to 10.20.30.60

X32
IP           10.20.30.2
mask      255.255.255.0
gateway  10.20.30.1

i will share some screens of it taken from the online simulator
you can play and see all the features it have

https://emulator.tp-link.com/CPE510/index.html

Highly recomended
Best
R.

I firmly believe they can Dave... why would I have given Buggs whiskers if that wasn't the case?  ;D
