1. An audience member should only hear a given sound source from one location. Ideally this means using just two speakers, one for Left and one for Right.

Re-read that and then think about it for a minute....

I was keeping it simple. This appears to be for a DJ use case. Other than the somewhat ambiguous terminology of "source" and "location", I stand by it.

On many occasions, I have set up a small, high quality PA (one main per side) and had people say that's not enough.
Until I turn it on and they comment on the sound quality.

I get that a lot. I'm a point source guy living in a line-array world.

Agree, nobody asked you what speakers are they and what is the "stated" coverage"?[/size]Hey Scott they are some old JBL MR925 and according to the published specs are 100H by 80V - Scott replies - So you would need to splay them for 200 degrees of coverage to not interfere but you are still going to get some interference below crossover point.  Those are OK speakers but they don't get very lour.Sounds like you want to make these 8 speakers do the job of two systems.  If that was possible we would not have different types of inventory for our clients. What you mean ? Scott Replied - I mean this is why I have point and shoot speakers like yours, 40degree horns, Fixed Splay Line Arrays like the JBL 932LA (mostly because customers ask for them) and of course real line arrays.  If I could do all my gigs with one type of speaker that would be amazing.  My original response was going to be humorous, leave 6 in the truck@.  You are trying to make an egg laying milk pig.Only 2 tops ? no subs ? Scott Replied - Of course you need properly crossed over integrated subs.

You can't array them but Yamaha DZR 212, DZR 315 are great speakers on a budget.  Martin has great offerings, Danley specializes in conentrant horns and has great solutions.  The new Meyer X series are about as good a box as you can get your hands on.
