Gooseneck microphone for talkback
« on: January 27, 2022, 01:19:50 PM »

Hey all!
I am looking for a gooseneck microphone to use as a talkback on a Midas M32. Being a talkback I am not looking to spend a lot of money. Any recommendations?
Thanks!

I have this model:

But, I'd check this one out (wasn't around when I bought mine):

The Behringer is a condenser. Does the Midas supply phantom to the talkback mic?
This is the industry standard. Not easy to come by any longer.

Thanks. I saw the OS mic on Amazon for about the same price but wasnt sure how well it would fit the jack on the surface.

Good question. I believe it does but will have to check.
I had 1 of the Radio Shack mics way back in the day. Didnt think I could find 1 any more.
Thanks!

I've always just used a Shure SM-57 on a inline threaded XLR connector.

The talkback on the M32 does have phantom power.

I have an MXL TB1 that I grabbed for $20-30 which has worked perfectly for going on 5 years.  I also have a Shure mx418 which is considerably more.  Other than having extra length, I am not sure a more expensive mic is worth it for live gigging as a TB mic.

I do not believe the TB1 is made any longer but worth a look.  As for the mx418, I was more or less gifted it and would have never purchased it for just Talk back.

I forgot to add to my original post that some of the mics I have tried required a little extra coaxing to fit the XLR connector. The TB1 is one of them.

I’d take a look at the Behringer option Dave shared.

I often use one an old Countryman gooseneck that I got for free. Works fine. I think just about anything would do the job.
